Proper Way to Do a Wet Shave
Even when they are using mens electric shavers, wet shaving is done by many men so that they will not experience those painful burns and unwanted skin infections. This shaving technique is more advisable compared to dry shaving. Read the rest of this story to know why and how to do it.
The difference between the wet shaving and dry shaving is that the former uses water to soften the skin and hair, making shaving smoother and less painful. The only downside with wet shaving is that it takes more time than the dry shaving technique, even if you use mens electric shaver, which are believed to be faster than conventional razors. But, that is nothing compared to the possibility of skin rashes and infections brought about by shaving without water.
To be able to perform a wet shave properly, you need to have the following beforehand: razor (just make sure it is not dull)
shaving cream (or gel or oil), shaving brush, towel, bowl, aftershave balm, moisturizer, and exfoliant.
The first step is to exfoliate the skin as your preparation for the shaving ritual. Exfoliation will help remove the dead skin cells, making your skin smooth. After putting exfoliant rinse it with water, then pat the area to be shaved with damp cloth. Make sure that it is warm because introducing warm to the skin relaxes the pores and softens the hair. This will make the hair easier to shave off.
Next, pour the shaving cream into the bowl and stir the cream using the brush. Apply the shaving cream into your skin in a circular motion. Gel or oil is best for those who have goatees or lengthy side burns; since both gel and oil are clear, they will allow you to see where you can shave. Shaving cream is used to moisturize and lubricate both your skin and hair. This also avoids chafing due to the usage of a razor.
Then, begin shaving from the cheek moving towards the chin. When shaving, shave in a direction opposite to the grain or the opposite direction where the hair grows. Pull the skin in the direction opposite to the direction where the razor is going. Use only short and firm strokes. It is best to rinse the razor after every stroke.
The hair on the chin should be last since it is the hardest part to remove hair from. Also, the longer the hair is exposed to the cream the softer it gets. In order to make the skin between your upper lip and nose tout, curl the upper lip over the teeth. Shave the area in short strokes, downward direction. Then shave the area below the bottom lip.
Rinse with cold water the area that was shaved or was creamed and check if there are areas that were not shaved. If there are remaining areas, re-apply shaving cream and shave the area. Once finished, rinse again and pat dry your face so that the pores will be closed. Do not rub with towel because doing so will only irritate the skin. Finally, put on moisturizer to cool down the skin. It should not result in any redness, stinging sensation, or razor burns.
Wet shaving is the safest way of removing hair on your body. But, if not done properly--whether with conventional blades or mens electric shavers--you may end up having unwanted results like rashes. It is best to follow these general steps to have a painful free and safe wet shaving experience.
