Differences between Domestic and Professional Hair Clippers
If you or a friend have ever considered cutting your own hair at home, then you will know just how difficult it can be to achieve salon quality results. It is certainly easy enough to uniformally shave your head to one length by yourself, however if you want any sort of style, then you will certainly need someone to cut it for you. In order for them achieve the best possible results at home, then you will need to ensure that you invest in the correct type of hair clippers. Many people will inevitably buy domestic use clippers, but more and more people are turning to professional hair clippers for home use, so I intend to examine the differences between them.
I will start by considering the leading brand in hair clippers today, which is Wahl. When we are looking at wahl domestic use clippers, there are a number to choose from, each with their own strengths. I will start by outlining some of the different models and then compare and contrast them with the market equivalent from the wahl professional range.
The most basic clipper in the Wahl home use range is the Homepro 100, which offers a decent quality cut for a very low price. It has a basic motor and is mains powered and is supplied with the basic attachments you will need for creating hair styles. This hair clipper is reasonable for basic styles, or standard hair, but if you want to create advanced styles, or cut thicker hair then you would really need to look towards the Wahl professional range of clippers. The equivalent clipper from the professional side is the Wahl Pro Clip, which also features the taper lever and attachments that the Homepro100 does, but has a much stronger motor and is designed to be used for more heavy-duty cutting.
If you want a more advanced home clipper then you would be wise to consider either the HomePro 300 or possibly the Chrome Pro set. The Wahl Homepro 300 has a similar motor to the standard homepro 100, but is supplied with more attachments so you can create slightly more advanced haircuts. If you want to get the best possible results in the comfort of your house, then you can look from the domestic range at the Wahl ChromePro Dexlue set, as this is a 40 piece kit with literally everything you need for home styling, such as a mirror, combs, brushes, graders, oil, gown, waterspray etc etc.
However, again, if you are planning to use your clippers at home a lot, or have very thick hair, then consider a clipper from the professional hair clippers range, such as the Wahl Super Taper, as it has a powerful V5000 motor which is stronger than anything in the home use range. These motors are designed to cut hair all day in a salon, so will obviously ensure better results than a home clipper. They are also much better at cutting through thicker and tougher hair, so if you are blessed with a real good head of hair, then you may definitely want to consider something like the Super Taper.
The real difference between quality however, can be seen in the cordless clippers. The Domestic cordless clippers such as the 9655 cordless clipper are perfect for basic cutting at home, as they have standard battery powered motors, and allow you the freedom to move around your family or friends head whilst cutting; however, the motors and battery life are far less powerful than a cordless one from the professional clippers range from Wahl. However, the price differences are reflected in the quality, with professional cordless clippers being 3 - 5 times more expensive! The best pro models are the Wahl Bellissima or Wahl Chromstyle as they have lithium ion batteries which cut strong and long, and will run for over 100 minutes on a full charge!
In summary, I hope i have managed to highlight some of the key differences between professional hair clippers such as the wahl super taper, and the home use models like the homepro 300. I would say that for basic home cutting, for instance tidying up your childrens hair, then you should definitely invest in a standard domsetic clipper; however, if you want a more demanding style or cut hair regularaly at home, then you should probably pay that little bit extra for a professional clipper.
