Man has come a long way from his cave-dwelling days where hair was a valuable protection against the elements. If Darwin's theory was true, man should have evolved into a hairless being. But the evolution theory was a big misconception. Nowadays, man has to go through the cumbersome business of shaving his facial hair. The following are suggestions on how to shave effectively.
Wet hair thoroughly. Cold water causes the erector pill to contract. These are the muscles that make the hair follicles stand up. Shaving would be much more effortless if hair is in this position. Leave the water on for about 3 minutes. This would soften the hair enough for shaving. Ideally, shaving should be done after a shower. Just make sure that you haven't been in it for more than eight minutes because your skin would have wrinkled by then which would be hard for shaving.
Use a conditioner to soften the hair more. You already know that conditioner makes the hair pliant and flexible after application. That condition would be suitable for shaving.
Trim the target hair first. If the hair is already long, you need to cut it short to about a quarter of an inch in order to shave easily. Otherwise, it will clog your razor with the loose hair.
Do not shave when you have just risen from bed. That is because skin is puffy at this time due to accumulation of body fluids such as urine, etc.
Do not pass your razor on an area of skin more than 3 times. That is because the skin is irritated with more strokes. So, make sure your strokes are slow and sure so that you won't have to repeat it. Should stray hairs manage to evade the razor, follow it up with an electric shaver or an epilator. The razor blade should be kept at an angle of 30 degrees from your skin.
Do not make the mistake of letting your roommate borrow your razor. Skin infection can be passed along this way, so does aids.
Do not scrimp on razor blades. When you see some hair being missed by the razor or you are already applying pressure, then the time is high for a new blade. Dull blades can heighten the incidence of ingrown hair.
Leave the shaving cream on the skin for at least 4 minutes to avoid having razor burn. Use a shaving cream that generates thick foam to avoid irritation and cuts.
