Save Money by Cutting Hair at Home
I should come clean, I've been spoiled. Up until the most recent year, my mother-in-law has cut my hair. In the past year or so, I've not been able to wait for her schedule anymore and have started visiting different hair salons in the region of my work. Unfortunately I've discovered that it can be rather steep to keep having your hair done like that. I by no means realized how lucky I was and how much cash I was saving by having relations cut it as a substitute.
With today's struggling economy, I'm hearing about more and more people starting to be taught how to cut their own family's hair. Once you really reflect about it, that's just the manner it used to be many years ago. The characteristic depiction of haircuts from the early 1900's was of a mother putting a bowl on her son's head and trimming about the edge. Not that it's the best method for boys who don't want to be teased at school.
So what does it take to begin cutting hair at home yourself? There are a few things I would very much propose before you commence. Ideally you'll want to invest in a reliable pair of scissors that you will use only for cutting hair. Using them for other cutting tasks will dull the blades and as result you will pull the hair when you're cutting. This doesn't go over pleasantly with children. Also you will end up with a lot of split ends by using a dull pair of scissors. Keep in mind that hair will be a small amount longer when you wet it down. So try not to cut off too much at a time.
If you have boys, a nice electric clipper will greatly speed up the process and give you a nice even cut. Using the electric clippers, you can get going from the base of the head, and cut at an upward slant to the center of the head and you'll get a nice level cut. Once that's done, go back with your scissors trimming the top sections for an even cut. And depending on your child's inclination, sometimes they like using the clippers all the way around and on top.
When you're cutting children's hair, it is a decent idea to put on a TV show or a DVD to keep them engrossed while you're cutting their hair. If you don't have something to keep their mind off what you're doing, they could move around making it complicated to keep things horizontal and even.
Another good hint, before you start cutting hair at home, on your next trip to the barber shop, watch closely the techniques the barber uses on your children. Don't be frightened to ask questions as well. You'll pick up tricks and ideas that you can try out at home later on the kids. The good news is that in a large amount of cases, hair grows back. So if you make a mistake, you can always try once more.
