Update to "Underrated Shaving Products"
Some time ago I wrote about some underrated shaving products. I think it's time to review the list and add some other products as well.
I still stand by my selection, however I think I found some new strong contenders: - Clubman & Coachman Aftershaves. Classic barbershop scent at a price that is stuck in the '50s. - Astra razor blades. Even if they are a little more expensive than the Derby, I really think they're worth the money. I found them to be very smooth and consistent. Also, I think I should discuss some overrated products:
- Merkur razor blades. I found these blades to be mediocre at best and ridiculously expensive. Let me repeat that: ridiculously expensive. Also, DOVO Merkur just increased their price, again. Now, there are some other expensive blades out-there, Feather for example. However, with Feather at least you get a decent, if not excellent blade. Merkur, on the other hand, just rides their "Made in Germany" reputation (of course, just my opinion).
- Merkur Vision. A nice razor but rather overpriced when you consider the price of a Futur. I really find no difference in the way they shave. A great razor; however, you can get better value for the buck if you buy a Futur. - Truefitt & Hill aftershave balms. Nice scents, but ridiculously expensive. Also, the only one I bought turned cheesy ?! I have no idea what chemical process took place with it, but was rather strange, I had to return it. - L'occitane shave soap. I know, I was the one who sung the praises of French shaving soaps. However, this soap is rather overpriced. It's not a bad soap, it is actually quite good, but it's just too expensive.
