Finding Antique Barber Chairs Online
Antique barber chairs are very high priced collector’s items. There aren’t too many of them left available at they have been quickly snatched up by collectors and various museums. Most barber shops have switched over to conventional chairs so it is very hard to find a barber shop that still features them in the shop.
Our local barber has three antique barber chairs in his barber shop, but he doesn’t use that part of the shop to cut hair. Instead he has installed two other chairs where he does his work. In the wall display case above the antique barber chairs are antique clippers. He once told me that the value of those antique barber chairs and the clippers were worth more than his barber shop and all the money he had made in it over the past 40 years.
The first barber chair was created by Earnest Koken in 1906. This was a hydraulic chair that allowed the barber to adjust the height of the person in the chair to meet his needs. This helped ensure the very best hair cut even for the very small children who came to the barber. This barber chair also featured a swivel feature so the barber could turn the customer as needed, a footrest, and a reclining back.
The internet is a great place to start looking for various styles of antique barber chairs to add to your collection or to simply see what your options are. You should also try to find them at auctions and antique stores. You can expect to pay anywhere from several hundred dollars to thousands of dollars for an antique barber chair. It depends on the quality of the chair, the particular design of the chair, and who you are buying it from.
