Easy Candle Ideas For Beginners - Scented Candles And Floating Daisies

It's amazing how certain hobbies and crafts seem to die out and then suddenly explode in popularity back on the scene. This is what seems to have happened with candlemaking and, interestingly, a resurgence of people setting up their own candlemaking business. Whether your own candlemaking business is for fun or for profit, making candles is nowhere as difficult as you may think. Here are a couple of easy candle ideas to try out.

EASY CANDLE IDEA 1: FLOATING DAISIES

What you need:

Various shapes and sizes biscuit cutters
Shallow baking tray
50g (2oz) Spare left over wax to use as a base to stand biscuit cutters in heated to 82 deg (180F)
150g (6oz) Your chosen coloured wax heated to 82 deg (180F)
Primed wick 2.5 cm long
Wicking needle or a skewer

* Pour your spare melted wax into the baking tray about 6mm (¼in) deep, now place your biscuit cutters into the wax and just leave them until the wax sets.

* Now carefully pour your main colour wax for your candles into the biscuit cutters and fill to the top.

* Make a hole in the centre of each one and then using your wicking needle push in the required length of your wick

* make sure the wicks are in the middle and then top up the holes with some more wax and leave to cool.

* When completely cold push out your beautiful home-made candles. This easy candle idea is a perfect way to use up left over wax

EASY CANDLE IDEA 2: SCENTED CANDLES:

What you need:

100g (4oz) paraffin wax
Your choice of colour dye
6 - 8g (1/8 - ¼ oz) candle perfume
Double Saucepan
Wax Thermometer
Glass Tumblers: Note once you have purchased the glass tumblers you have them for life.
10cm (4in) length primed wick
Wick Sustainer
Stick for supporting the wick
Skewer or wicking needle
Cocktail Stick

(1) - Prepare your wax, dye and perfume mix, follow guidelines for how much dye and perfume to mix.
(2) - Heat your wax to 82deg (180F), carefully pour into your glass tumbler to depth of around 4mm (1/4in). When almost set push down into the wax the wick and sustainer.
(3) - Lay a cocktail stick across the top of your tumbler with the excess wick wrapped around it, making sure it is central because if the flame touches and burns the side of your glass tumbler it will cause it to crack. Pour in your wax and perfume mix to about 1cm (1/2in) from the top of your tumbler.
(4) - When your candle is about half way through setting pierce the top of it in a few places using the skewer or needle.
(5) - When your candle is nearly cold top it up with the spare wax. Do your best not to let it go higher than your candles original level. This will make it much easier for the candle to just drop out of the tumbler. To release the candle just turn your tumbler upside down and your candle should just drop out.

These are simple but very effective easy candle ideas and there are many simple and basic easy candle ideas you can try out while you are learning. It is a great and very satisfying hobby but, can be a lucrative business if done correctly.
