Lapland-The land of the midnight sun
There has never been more of a contrast between summer and winter periods in Lapland. In Lapland Winter lasts for over 200 days and it really is a magical place to be, with all the activities going on and of course Santa Claus The summer also brings a different kind of magic where Lapland becomes the land of the midnight sun. The sun remains visible above the horizon, meaning that Lapland never gets dark. The further North you are, the longer the midnight sun will last. In some areas the sun will remain visible for over 70 days and there really is nothing more welcome for the locals than the arrival of the sun. After the dark days of winter the midnight sun is a time for celebration where sleep seems unimportant and sitting outside your log cabin on long summer evenings is a real treat. If you are further south, the sun still remains high in the sky until about 11pm, a kind of half light then descends, where it isn't dark or light. The sun will again rise at about 3am. The land of the midnight sun attracts visitors from all over the world. The pleasure of watching the sun look as though it may be disappearing towards the horizon and then suddenly emerging again and bursting into life is a truly magical experience not to be missed by anyone. It is not unknown for the locals to head out for a hike not returning until midnight. The midnight sun makes everything feel possible as if we can achieve anything. The constant light is exhilarating and makes you feel absolutely full of energy. Winter will come again and the locals in Lapland enjoy the land of the midnight sun whilst it lasts until mid July.
