How to Care for Your Car- Wash, Wax and Metal Carport Kits
"Take care of your car and your car will take care of you," says my father, and he's right. We depend so much on our cars, I think they deserve a little more care than we usually afford them. From washing to waxing to detailing and storage, there's a lot we can do for our cars to show them how appreciated they are.
First, a simple wash. Park your car out of direct sunlight before washing, or it will dry too quickly and leave spots on the finish. Set out all the things you'll need, so you don't have to keep running back into the house to get things and the water dries; once you start washing, just keep going until you're finished or you won't achieve the finished product you're looking for. You'll need a large sponge or wash mitt, car wash soap and two buckets- one with water and car washing soap as directed on the bottle, and another bucket with plain water for rinsing off dirty sponges and brushes. However, only use a brush (and a soft one, at that) for washing off the top of your car if you can't reach it with a sponge. Used on the body of the car, a brush will leave little scratches that will dull the finish.
Okay, you're all ready to get started. Hose off the car to loosen the dirt, but use a more gentle stream so it doesn't just push the grit around on the car and hurt the paint. Soak your wash mitt or sponge in the soapy water and apply it in circular motion to all over the car. Wash it in sections, starting at the top so the water doesn't drip down into areas you've already washed. It's best to circle the car a few times in a sort of spiral, moving down lower on the car each time. Rinse out your sponge frequently in the plain water bucket, keeping the dirt out of the soapy water mixture.
After you wash each section, hose it off so the soapy water doesn't dry on the car's finish and stain it. Keep the whole car wet as you wash it, in order to prevent pieces from drying too quickly and leaving water-spots. Once each section has been washed and rinsed, quickly towel dry it all. Again, to prevent water-spots.
Wash the lower body and the wheels last since they're the dirtiest parts of the car. This will keep your buckets and sponges as clean as possible for the rest of the car. You might even want to use a different sponge or mitt for this part because of all the extra grit that will get in them. For the openings of the wheels, you can use a long, skinny wheel-brush, but if they're glossy, use your sponge again there to prevent scratching. For the tire sidewalls, use a plastic brush to remove the extra plasticizer that rises to the surface of the tire to protect the outer layers but can slightly discolor the tire. Almost done! Rinse the bottom of the car with the hose on a very strong setting. This will eliminate accumulated grit and grime, as well as salt that's been picked up from roads. Salt is a very corrosive material that is a big problem in areas that get a lot of snow and ice on the road, as salt is laid down to melt ice and provide traction. Left on your car, it will rust very quickly, so don't skip this important step. Dry the whole car quickly with fresh towels, and you're golden!
For the best results, though, you'll want to consider waxing your car. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, but it will create a look that lasts for much longer. Choose a wax to use on your car that contains genuine carnauba, even if it's a little more expensive. Using a damp sponge, apply a small amount of wax onto a section of the car using circular motions. Let it sit for a few minutes, but don't let it dry before using a nonabrasive rag to remove the wax and polish the car. Repeat this over the rest of the car, and voila! A clean, shining car that looks like new.
After your hard work, don't let a rain storm or tree sap ruin it. Metal carport kits will provide protection for your car and make your work last much longer. Carports keep your car safe from the elements, be it heat, sun damage, rain, sleet, ice or snow.
With some simple care- washing, waxing and metal carport kits, you car will stay in good shape and keep you safe, too.
