LCD Monitor Backlight Replacement
Have you ever been in a situation where you wake up before the crack of dawn to finish a very important project that you have been working on for weeks in your computer, and when you switched on the power, nothing comes out from your LCD monitor screen? The CPU seems to be working, and the power light of the monitor is on but still no picture comes out.
So what now? If you are the calm and collected type who knows how to handle a challenging situation, then you will have no difficulty looking into the positive side of things. However, if you're the reactive type who panics easily, then it's okay to grit your teeth and shout in frustration. Just let it out, let it pass then you can try to sit back and gather your wits and assess the technical problem.
The most logical thing to do is to switch off all the power, then check the monitor cable that connects to the CPU. A loose connection is often the culprit of a blank monitor or a flickering signal. Disconnect the cable and put it back firmly. Switch on all the power and observe the monitor closely. If the monitor signal is back and there is a clear picture without any interference, then you are back in business.
However, if the screen shows a picture with a dull color and then it goes off again, the culprit will most likely be your LCD monitor backlight which will probably need replacement. If you are not the type who has the patience to tinker with any kind of equipment, it would be best to refer the problem to a qualified technician. But LCD monitor backlight replacement can be done DIY (do-it-yourself) style. Just make sure to check on your warranties first if they have not expired because it would be to your advantage if you avail of the warranty and have the LCD monitor backlight replacement and repair done free of charge. You may also violate the terms and conditions of the warranty for unauthorized opening and repair of your monitor.
Depending on the brand and model of your LCD monitor, the backlight may be the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) tube or the LED (light emitting diode) type. In terms of power consumption, the LED type is the more cost effective and can produce the brightest and clearest colors as compared to its CCFL counterpart. So if your LCD monitor that uses the CCFL can be converted to the LED, do so by all means to help conserve on energy.

As mentioned earlier, if your monitor is no longer under warranty and you are comfortable tinkering with the equipment, do not forget to include the following materials for the repair: the CCFL or LED replacement bulb, an EMF Shielding foil tape, soldering iron and wick and wire cutter. Also bear in mind that before opening your LCD monitor, make sure to release all the built-up static electricity in your body to avoid any exposure to possible electrical damage of the very sensitive internal components of your LCD monitor. You may do this by simply touching a metal object that is grounded on the floor.
