Foundation is the transition between skin care and cosmetics. It's about healthy looking skin, that radiates a glow; and coverage that looks natural. It should cover blemishes, fill fine lines, adjust skin tone, provide a natural look.
Determining Sensitive Skin
Basically, there are four different types of sensitive skin -- acne, rosacea, burning and stinging, and contact dermatitis
It is very important that you know and understand your skin sensitivity in order to choose a foundation for your type of sensitive skin.
Sensitive Skin Types and Causes
Acne - caused by oily skin and high levels of the bacteria
Rosacea - a skin condition consisting of facial flushing, pimples and broken blood vessels on the face. The cause of rosacea has not been fully determined, some have suggested it is caused from bacteria, genetic causes, or the side effects of sun exposure and vascular instability.
Burning and Stinging - the cause is unknown, Dr. Baumann noted that there are no products that help burning and stinging sensations.
Contact Dermatitis (Allergies) - allergens, which is when you are allergic to an ingredient. Additionally, there are irritants, which is when an ingredient is irritating but you are not truly allergic.
Foundation Types
Tinted Moisturizer will balance your skin tone and moisturize dry skin.
Mousse or Whipped Foundation provides control and works well with most skin types, it applies smoothly which helps dry and aging skin.
Liquid Foundation - goes on smooth, but, some have oils and waxy ingredients, which cause skin irratations.
Cream-to-Powder Foundation - goes on as a liquid and dries as a powder
Concealer is thickened, to cover imperfections
Minerals - have few ingredients, mostly minerals, and work well with people who need sensitive skin foundation.
