Save Money Shaving

Hi, I am a regular forty two-yr-old man from the UK and similar to nearly all of males within the UK I spend a small fortune yearly on shaving equipment.

However I not too long ago found an effective process that is not only nice but it will possibly save you cash shaving too. Currently I am saving over £100 a year on shaving and loads of my time too. It is so easy you may most likely kick yourself when you find out how! So I need to share this technique with you, not only to save your self money, but to make a each day chore a speedy process (and no, I am not going to tell you to stop shaving!)

As you realize shaving is pretty much unavoidable unless you are a woman or have a beard, so you most likely would not be reading this article in the first place unless you are an everyday shaver. This text is directed at males after all nonetheless there is no reason why this method cannot be utilised by women too!

After I Started Shaving

As a younger man I used an electric razor my parents purchased for me for Christmas. Sadly it did not seem to shave close sufficiently and as I recollect it gave me a rash on my neck too. So I decided to start out shaving using Gillette razors and shaving foam which appeared to work very nicely, I think that is all that was available except the horsehair brush and soap.

The Razors I've Tried

I've also tried disposable razors at one point, in an effort to avoid wasting money, which was a horrible mistake! I seemed as if I had fallen face first in a thorn bush, then after I put tissue paper on the cuts I seemed like something from a horror film.

Just a few years ago I remember a work colleague who came to work with a little bit of tissue on the tip of his nose, how he managed to cut his nose shaving I have no idea nevertheless it was hilarious.

I have also used Wilkinson Sword for a few years too, but I eventually switched back to Gillette razors because they had the edge (okay, bad joke) and I've stuck with Gillette ever since.

Once I attempted to use a razor that you get with a travelling bag as a part of a Christmas or birthday gift. You already know those, you get a deodorant after-shave and moisturiser that each one smell the same and a razor that looks cheaper than a disposable. I took one stroke and decided to stop because I did not fancy a skin graft thank you very much. I think they need to be accompanied by a " Hazardous" sticker and health warning!

Do not Buy Low cost Shaving Foam

I remember at one time I purchased some low cost shaving foam and what a mistake that was! Utterly useless! Using soap and water would have been better! Then I found shaving gel, which I need to say is way simpler than foam and I feel it lasts much longer too. I have used Gillette shaving gel for a really long time however then I discovered a gel that seemed to work even better, known as Nivea for Men Sensitive Shaving Gel. The foam from the gel was thicker and left my pores and skin very smooth afterwards, what would you expect, after all Nivea are the pores and skin experts.

A Visit to the Barbers in China

Whilst on a holiday to Nanning in China, the airport safety personnel took my shaving gel from me that I'd bought especially for the trip, even though it was smaller than the maximum 125ml that was permitted on the plane at that time. They found it in my hand baggage so it is a good suggestion to pack them in your primary luggage in case you are thinking of flying to your destination.

I had gone with out shaving for about three days when my wife urged I try a local barber; I thought to myself "why not I've never been to a barber before". The barber had me lie down then put a warm towel over my beard for a couple of minutes. After removing the towel he sat me up and applied some soap to my face with small horsehair brush. He sharpened his cutthroat blade and walked towards me with it. I'd only seen cutthroat blades in the old motion pictures and I'd completely forgotten barbers used them, I assumed they would be using something else by now. I need to say it's fairly intimidating having a cutthroat blade going on your neck from a complete stranger that does not communicate a word of English. Lots of mad thoughts go through your mind, like what if he slipped? Or I coughed? Or what if he did not like foreigners? He took a couple of strokes then sharpened his blade, again took just a few more strokes then sharpened it once more then proceeded to shave me. Then I had to lie down once more and he put a hot towel over my face again before he sat me up and repeated the process. I need to say it was a bit painful however I couldn't say much as a result of he did not speak a word| of English and I did not know any Chinese language, Mandarin, however I believe he knew by the expressions on my face that it was painful. After a while he appeared to have finished, much to my relief! I washed off the shaving soap and dried my face. As we paid the barber he said something to my wife in Chinese then she started laughing. I asked my wife what was so humorous, she told me mentioned he'd never shaved a foreigner before and apologised for taking so long, mt wife also informed me he'd only managed to shave half my face properly. I had thought he'd completed the other side a bit quick. To be honest that was one experience I do not wish to attempt again in a hurry.

 The Little Blue Strip

In case you are presently using Gillette you could have noticedseen the little blue strip close to the blades called the glide strip, that is to remind you that it's worthwhile to change your blades, well my blue strip has gone months ago and the soap beneath it has nearly gone too. Why should it is advisable throw away a perfectly good razor blade if it is still sharp? And to be honest with you I haven't seen any difference when shaving with out it either. I believe it is only a clever little way for Gillette to make more money from us.

 My Eureka Moment

However the journey to the barber got me thinking. I was purchasing new Gillette blades every few weeks they usually aren't the cheapest of blades either. I didn't wish to switch to a different company once more because the Gillette blades work very well, nor did I want even use disposable razors again and I definitely wasn't going to attempt a cutthroat blade! I believed it was impossible to sharpen razor blades however I've learnt on a web site referred to as www.hackcollege.com that you could rescue them by running your blades up and down the leg of an old pair of denims about 20 times each way (like shaving the incorrect way round). Nonetheless I haven't tried this myself yet.

I thought to mysel "If only there was a way to make my blades last longer."

There isn't anything amazing about the way in which I shave now, I simply know that I can make my blades last loads longer and it really works very effectively for me. In reality I could use my Gillette blade for around five to six months with no problem. When I finally change the razor blade (which is, by the way, still quite sharp) I simply use the previous blade to shave my head (I'm going bald you see).

Here is what I do, I don't moisten my face first, I simply apply some Nivia shaving gel on to the parts I want to shave. I will leave it on for a few minutes while I brush my teeth, then by the point I've finished brushing my teeth the hair will have softened prepared for shaving. I put some warm water in the sink then apply a few drops of water to each side of my face, massage it in till it is soapy again (by this time a lot of the foam could have gone depending on how much gel was used). Now I go forward and shave, I are inclined to go towards the grain, but simply shave as you normally do. Remember to rinse your blade every few strokes to keep the blades unclogged, don't hit the blades against the side like I used to do, I believe this moves the blades out of line. After I've finished shaving I use the soap that is remaining to wash my face, quickly rinse my face and there you go! You'll be able to brush your teeth, shave yourself and wash your face all in around five minutes.

And another good tip for you: have you ever seen while you let the water out of the sink all of the hair sticks to the side of the sink and it's a nightmare to wash? All you have to do is swirl the water to make a mini whirlpool whilst the water goes down the plughole, this makes a lot of the hair go to the side|then do one swirl to the outside this makes it go to the center of the water and therefore it goes down the plughole. You can merely rinse away any stragglers left over.

I hope you liked my little stories and hope you can take away something useful about saving cash shaving. If you live in the UK and you would like to find out how to save cash in different ways try this web site Utility Warehouse www.utilitywarehouse.org.uk/registeronline
