When it comes time for your next trip to the salon, think about your budget. How much do you have to spend this month on things like groceries and household supplies? Will you have enough money left over for an expensive trim? Ask yourself those few questions first and then decide whether a haircut is worth your money. If not, your next decision is to figure out if you would save more money by splurging on a good quality pair of scissors or by getting your regular six-week haircut.
Once you have determined those few solutions, it's time to make your first move! If you're leading down the path of buying shears, do your research. Find out a price range and compare that to the quality of the scissors. One thing to look for in the product is their specific function and remember to always read reviews about them as well. But how do you decide what to buy? Aren't scissors all the same? The answer is no, there are many different types of scissors that may vary in size and shape.
Hairdressers usually use shears that are in half-inch increments from 4.5 to 6.5 inches for size. If you want results to be precise, it is recommended that you use scissors that have similar increments. Anything longer than 6.5 inches would be considered barber scissors and aren't necessary. Purchase the pair that you think will do the best job on your locks.
One of the most important things to think about is the sharpness of the shears. Make sure that they are extremely sharp! To determine this, practice clipping pieces of a doll's hair. Take the hair scissors in your hand and start trimming the doll's hair as if you were cutting your own. If you feel the hair being cut in your fingers or if you can hear a "snitch, snitch" as you are trimming the doll's hair, it means that your scissors are not sharp enough.
Also think about your hands in this situation. You want them to be comfortable when cutting. After all, the magic can't happen without the hands! This means you should make sure to order scissors that have big enough or small enough holes for your fingers to fit through. If the holes are too small, you could get calluses, leading to discomfort when trimming your hair. If they are too big, your fingers could slip through the holes uncontrollably and cut you very easily. Make sure the holes are big enough so that your fingers can slide through without forcing them but small enough that they don't fall out.
So what do you think? Splurge on hair scissors or overspend at the salon? Although a quick trip to the salon might be easier if you aren't so confident in cutting your own hair, it might be cheaper for some to just do their own hair at home. The only thing to be cautious about is the quality of the scissors. It's time for you to save money on haircuts. Lose your hair, not your money!
