How To Get Your Facial Hair Permanently Removed
There are two types of facial hair that we may want to know about prior to attempting permanent facial hair removal.
The first type, vellus hairs are the almost invisible hair that is soft and short. Age or health-related reasons could turn these vellus hairs into terminal hairs, which are dark and visible, that sometimes grow on the face. Since women became aware of the presence of these, the demand for a smoother face texture have brought about different types of hair removal treatments particularly for the face.
The common methods of hair removal are shaving, threading, plucking and waxing, which are all temporary and with their own drawbacks such as skin irritation and the ability to withstand pain. Hair removal creams and other products are readily available in the market which contain ingredients that are of an acidic nature, literally melting the hair which often cause irritation to sensitive skin. As a result, people, most especially women, opt for permanent removal treatments.
Currently there are two methods of permanent facial hair removal procedures. The first method is electrolysis, where the root of the follicle is killed by inserting a needle into the follicle. The root is deadened electric shock passes through the root of the hair. It is a very costly and time consuming procedure, and even a small area such as the upper lip takes between 4 to 10 hours. The process is painful and side effects such as scarring and inflammation of the treated skin area are common. There is also a risk of infection if the needles used weren't properly sterilized.
The second method is the laser facial hair removal treatment. A laser is directed onto the follicle through the skin and kills the follicle. It typically works best on light-skinned individuals with dark hair, as the melanin in the hair absorbs more of the laser light. The most common side effects of laser treatments are burning and scarring, especially when the patient treated was unable to keep still during the laser procedure.
However, it is common knowledge that there is no guarantee that hair follicles are completely killed. There may be instances when a patient has to undergo another treatment due to regrowth.
