Many men find reason to stress and worry about hair loss. These men feel cheated in life that their hair has decided to make for the hills never to return. They see hair loss as a future full of ridicule, low self esteem and rejection from women. However there is a fine upstanding group of men who accept their baldness for what it is and in fact embrace it for all its reflective beauty. Jason Alexander ( real name Jason Greenspan ) is best known as baldy George Costanza of the hit sitcom tv show Seinfeld. Jason's baldness is used to great effect in the show with many gags centered around his magnificent bald head. Jason began balding quite young - at just 16 years of age in fact ! He is also a little rare in the bald celebrity circle in that he keeps the hair he does have at a medium length while most famous bald men prefer to shave all over or keep their remaining follicles as short as possible.
Bill Murray is an American actor made famous for his roles in Ghostbusters and Caddyshack as well as his appearances on Saturday Night Live. Bill has also been losing his hair since an early age - possibly his early 20's and appears to show some degree of baldness in all his movies. He never seems too concerned about his hair and perhaps it was this "who cares!" part of his nature that became his hallmark and lead to many successful film roles. Bill's most famous bald moment was his character in the film KingPin where he displayed a massive come-over that became the heart of his character's identity.
Bruce Willis. No discussion about cool and confident bald guys could be complete without action star Bruce Willis. Bruce, along with a small group of other actors and sportsmen was responsible for making bald look cool back in the early 1990s. Many men followed his lead, throwing their baseball caps in the trash and putting their shavers to task. "I'm a man and I will kick anybody's arse who tries to tell me that I'm not one because my hair's thinning," Willis famously asserted while shooting Die Hard 4.0. Willis began thinning back in the 80s when at around the age of 30 he became known for his role on the comedy action detective series "Moonlighting". "Hair loss is God's way of telling me I'm human," he once said.
Michael Jordan, retired NBA star with Chicago Bulls, is to the world of sport what Bruce is to the world of acting. Cool, strong, loved by women , the kind of guy we all want to be and completely bald ! And much like Bruce he was also the inspiration for many a man to shave their head and discover a world free from the worries of hair loss. Basketball players, baseball players , footballers and even hip-hop and rap musicians all followed Michael's lead. Let's just hope that Hitler like mustache I saw his with recently doesn't catch on. Besides Michael one other sportsman stands head and shoulders ( no pun intended ) above the bald pack. Andre Aggassi was the sexiest sporstman in the world back in the late 80s and early 90s. His Bon Jovi looks and Austin Powers manly cuteness attracted women in their millions. His professional tennis career started at just 16 years of age. In his best selling autobiography Andre tells all about his struggle with hair loss, using dandruff and hair loss shampoos and how it was affecting his image. "Every morning I would get up and find another piece of my identity on the pillow, in the wash basin, down the plughole." Agassi writes. "I asked myself, 'You want to wear a toupee? On the tennis court?' I answered myself: 'What else could I do?'" Agassi says he was too embarrassed to admit to his premature baldness and went to great lengths to mask the shiny truth. He claims he lost his first Grand Slam final, at the French Open in 1990, because he was worried the wig would fall off. "With each leap, I imagine it falling into the sand," he wrote. "I imagine millions of spectators move closer to their TV sets, their eyes widening and, in dozens of dialects and languages, ask how Andre Agassi's hair has fallen from his head." Andre was convinced to go the all natural look by then girlfriend Brooke Shields. After chopping of all the hair Agassi says he found a new lease on life, he got his career back on track and was more happy to show the men of the world you can be bald and sexy at the same time.
Patrick Stewart is one of the most famous British baldies in history. Here is a man who absolutely excels in displaying a big bald manly persona along with a refined speech and acting abilities. Amazingly Patrick lost all his hair within just a year at the young of 19. He sported a comb over, wore hats and lost confidence with the ladies. Hard to imagine now but it's true. The decision to go completely bald was not Patrick's alone. A friend of his actually held him down while the friend's wife proceeded to cut of Patrick's horrid come over. The friend then knelt down in front of Patrick and told to be himself from now on and to stop hiding. Patrick has often recounted this moment in interviews and thanks his friend for showing him how to get his confidence back.
From the world of music we have a number of famous baldies. One of the most iconic alt rock legends would have to be Michael Stipe of the American band R.E,M. Michael seems comfortable with his hair loss now but it ate away at him for many years early on in his rock career. In REM's early hit tune "Radio Free Europe" you can see Michael hiding his face behind a wall of hair. "The hair helped a lot to hide who I was," he says 24 years later. "So that went away," he adds with a short chuckle, "and things got a little more difficult." It must have been quite distressing for him then when around the age of 30, he started to go bald. During this time, the early 90s, he took to wearing a variety of hats to cover it up, but this didn't really fool anybody. In 1994 he decided to go the full monty - chopping of all remaining hair and presented to the world a new, confident instantly recognizable rock star. The hits just flowed from then on.
Another well respected bald man from the music world is The Edge (David Howell Evans), bass player for the world conquering Irish rock group U2. He struggled with his hair loss as U2's career went mega stratospheric. Hiding behind a series of hats, caps, beanies and head scarves. Although his hair started thinning back in the late 70s its amazing to think that a whole generation of people of grown up without seeming him hat less. These days David is more confident about his baldness and is often seen about town without any of his usual head gear. People have speculated that you can see signs of a botched hair transplant and they also be a reason why he often wore hats in the past - to hide any scaring. On a side note Bono also started going bald in the late 1990 until in sometime in the next decade when his miraculously returned after just one week !
