The Hot Streak and the Double Portion Blessing
Sometimes unexplainably and unexpectedly we might find ourselves in a personal hot streak, where things seem to be going doubly well, all of the sudden and maybe from out of no where.
We might be hitting on personal high points one after the other and this seems to contrast with the ways in which things prior where not happening or coming across at this level.
In Isaiah Chapter 61 verse 7 the bible speaks of the double portion blessing. Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.
In 1 Timothy Chapter 5 verse 17 it mentions that the good minister of the faith be paid double, another formulation out of the idea of the double portion. Since this involves service to the Lord including prayer this is part of the evidence that the double portion blessing, might involve a response by the Lord to prayer efforts but it is still out of his sovereignty and he doesn't have to do it.
When Isaac prays for children in the book of Genesis after 20 years of being with his wife, Rebecca has twins, maybe another example of the double portion.
Job received a double restoration after he prayed so we see that there the double portion blessing might be associated with prayer.
The hot streak is often a term that refers to the sports player, but also could refer to the stock picker, or people that are doing that can ride in any direction, could go either way based on fortune and circumstance that seems on the surface more so to be out there rather than closer to home or personal.
But the hot streak can knock right on your door and you might get a double portion of what involves your heart's desire.
This could very well be the hand of blessing from the Lord actively present.
What could the double portion actually be?
It could be a double portion of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Old Testament in the case of Elijah.
It could be the Lord super sizing a situation.
This would involve almost awe or awesomeness to the experience involved as it borders on the unbelievable in both the stretch and scope of the blessing.
McDonald's used to have its super size menu. An example of this was super size French fries. But then the super size menu disappeared as it was under criticism that it was too much of a good thing and people were having to large a portion.
While this may have been the case for the fries, if the Lord does super size something it would not be in the category of too much of a good thing. It would be more of a good thing that is still good even in the super sized format.
It could also be that the double portion could be sequential in that it would continue and replicate that way on down the road of time and place.
The situations could continually unfold in the manner of a double portion blessing.
What this might also show is that only the Lord can actually hold the blessing to the double portion
For example, look at the surfer looking for the both the ideal waves and the ideal surfing conditions which might involve one ideal wave after another.
These waves might involve double the normal size and the wave holding its form all the way across the beachfront.
It would a wonderful sight and experience for the surfer to be in a situation where it might be one wave after another like this, all across the ocean front. But the surfer herself cannot hold the wave in this majestic form or keep the waves going like this, In actuality they are encountering a hot streak as a surfer or also encountering the spiritual reality manifested in performance of the waves of the double portion blessin
In reality only the Lord can uphold the awesomeness of the blessing as a double portion in both keeping the blessing going and keeping it in its proper form.
Of course the blessings could be crafted to the personal desires of the person, which could very well differ as people have different tastes, hopes, dreams and expectations, or just like different things.
In this season of thanks, it is good to give thanks for the hot streak and the blessings that arise and have a firmer grasp on the understanding that blessings can arrive in the double portion if the Lord so chooses to do this and the thing to do is ride the wave of these blessings and give thanks for the wave.
