Enjoy All of Tim Burton's Movies in High Definition
Rarely does one director remain culturally relevant as long as Tim Burton has managed to do. His work spans two-and-a-half decades and has captured the imagination of people across the globe. However, most people likely do not know the extent to which Tim Burton has changed the movie experience for people everywhere. Here is a brief reminder of Tim Burton's work that you can watch on satellite TV.
Tim Burton's movies generally have a flare for the darker side. Yet Tim Burton's movies are not only known for their tendency to lean towards the dark side. His works tend to lend themselves to the quirky, spooky, and humorous as well. It is this mix that truly makes Tim Burton's movies unique.
Tim Burton's early years created a few iconic figures in American society. Tim Burton got his start in 1985 with Pee Wee's Big Adventure, starring Paul Reubens. Typical of Burton's characters, this movie contains an eccentric main character, a man-child, who traverses the United States in search of his bicycle. The character of Pee Wee Herman went on to have his own television show.
Three years later, Beetlejuice was released, quickly followed by Edward Scissorhands, starring for the first time in a Burton movie Johnny Depp. Depp and Burton would go on to collaborate in seven movies. These two movies from the early 90's starred quirky, dark, and humorous characters. They quickly became a part of the fabric of American cinema, and Burton became known as the film director with a penchant for oddities.
Yet perhaps not until the Batman trilogy stretching from the years 1989 to 1995, was the general movie-watching public introduced to Tim Burton's directing ability. He became a household name. Even with the early 90's special effects not as impressive as they are today, the Batman trilogy is certainly still enjoyable in high definition on satellite TV. Ironically however, with the modern editions of Batman directed by Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton's Batman trilogy actually appears light. It shows exactly how skillful Burton is at mixing dark with light.
Between the Batman trilogy and the modern era of Burton movies, Burton directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hollow, and a re-edition of Planet of the Apes in 2001. Helena Bonham Carter played in Plant of the Apes, the first of six straight Burton movies featuring this actress.
In 2003, Tim Burton directed Big Fish, followed by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride both in 2005. He ended the decade with Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, 9, and finally Alice in Wonderland in 2010. Big Fish stars Ewan McGregor and truly is the most mythical, fantastical movie directed by Burton. In it, the main character relives the stories told to him by his dying father in an effort to learn more about him. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory propelled Burton further into international fame, with its unique take on Willie Wonka, played by Johnny Depp. Depp was again used by Burton to create a different spin on the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. In both instances, Depp did not disappoint in creating a humorous dark side, symbolic of all Burton films.
