Brow waxing can be very painful. Even though the pain is short-lasting, as the wax is pulled from the skin, many people find it uncomfortable.
If the hair is removed against the direction of growth, hair follicles may begin to grow in other directions. This problem is more common with do-it-yourself home waxing kits, as most waxing professionals know how to avoid it.
Even when performed professionally, brow waxing may result in ingrown hairs or skin irritation. This is especially true when dealing with sensitive skin.
Lastly, with brow waxing there is the danger that the spa professional might drastically change the look of your eyebrows to a look you do not like, or that you will ask for a drastic change and then be unhappy with the results. It is a good idea to be clear with the spa professional about the look you are going for, and consider going into any drastic eyebrow change slowly.
Who Should Avoid Brow Waxing?
Individuals with Diabetes or poor circulation may want to speak to their doctor before scheduling a brow waxing appointment, as these conditions may make the skin more prone to infections. People with very low immune systems, or who are suffering from serious skin problems like Psoriasis or severe allergies, may need to avoid waxing altogether.
Individuals who are on medications Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or Isotretinoin should avoid waxing as these medications may weaken the skin.
Brow waxing should also be avoided on any areas of the skin that are suffering from sunburn or moles, warts, rash, or pimples.
